Art in Science Week

As our theme for Science week was 'Grow' we linked this to some wonderful art work.

We created a 3D sculpture using wax crayons. We attached the was crayons onto the top of a canvas and then heated them to allow them to melt. The colours dripped all the way down to create a wonderful background.

We learnt that the wax crayons melted because they are made from paraffin and have a low melting point. We also learnt that due to the pigments in the crayons the lighter colours took longer to melt than the darker ones.

When our background was complete, we added some flowers to the foreground that linked to our class. Iris and Crocus!
