Mathematics

At River View Primary and Nursery School, we strongly believe that Mathematics equips pupils with the uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world.  Our aim is to create an exciting and stimulating environment that uses a range of concrete resources to maximise teaching and learning.

We endeavour to make Mathematics learning fun by using:

  • Practical activities and games
  • Problem solving to challenge thinking
  • A variety of individual, paired, group and whole class learning and discussions
  • Purposeful practise where time is given to apply their learning

White Rose Maths

Years 1-6 follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work. These schemes support a mastery approach to teaching and learning and have number at their heart.

In EYFS, planning is delivered as appropriate to each individual child based on where the children are now and what their next steps are.

Maths Workshop

On Friday 25th January parents and carers attended our Maths Workshop. The aim of the workshop was for children to share their target with parents and for them to understand how they can support them at home. Walking around the classrooms it was fantastic to hear the children talking about their maths learning and how their teachers are helping them to achieve. During the workshop adults and children took part in a variety of activities including multiplication bingo, battleships, colour my number and TT Rockstars on the iPads.

Don't forget to look at year group webpages for photographs of the workshop.

Here are a list of websites that you can use at home to help support your child.
