Spring Term

Our topic this term is, 'Down in the Garden.' We will be learning all about different plants and insects that live in the garden. We will also start our topic off by planting some seeds to see how they grow over the term. In the continuous provision there will be lots of different activities for us to access that help support us to gain knowledge and understanding about our topic, alongside adult led activities.

World Book Day

On Thursday 6th March we celebrated World Book Day! We had lots of different activities linked to the story, 'Alice in Wonderland.' In our classroom we had jam to explore, a pompom tea party, Alice in Wonderland colouring, Alice in Wonderland small world and playing cards to match numicon to.

As well as having the fun activities out in the classroom, our parents came into school to take part in a workshop. They took part in all of the activities in the classroom as well as making jam sandwiches with us.

We all had a great day dressing up as our favourite characters from different stories as well as joining in with some exciting activites with our families!

World Book Week 3rd-7th March

We have had a fantastic week celebrating all things reading! Our focus book this week has been, ‘Too Many Carrots.’ We have had lots of activities out in the provision linked to our story, such as painting with carrots, filling different sized containers with carrots, themed play dough and exploring edible soil.

Along with our continuous provision activities, we have had a couple of focused activities linked to the story. Firstly, we made bookmarks that we have taken home to use when we are reading our stories with our adults at home.

We have also made our own rabbit shortbread biscuits. We all helped to make the dough, the adult put them in the oven to cook and we then decorated them.

Have a look at the pictures to see how much fun we have had endeavouring to love reading!

Mental Health Week 3rd-7th February

Throughout the school this week we have been thinking about our Mental Health and the importance of our wellbeing. During our topic sessions this week, we have been thinking about our RICHER value of Caring. To explore the theme of 'caring,' we read the story of, 'Colin the Caring Bear.' After reading the story we talked about the ways in which Colin was caring and the ways in which we and the adults in our classroom are caring.

To continue exploring the theme of 'caring,' we created a caring chain. We told our adult they ways in which we have seen people care for others and how we can show care. They then wrote it on a piece of paper which was then made into a chain. We are displaying our chain in the classroom and will add to it throughout the year.

Phunky Foods Visit

To launch our new topic ‘Down In The Garden’, we had a special visit from Phunky Foods exploring fruits and vegetables.
Firstly, we listened to the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and used our senses to explore the fruit from the book, including passion fruits, papayas, mangos, oranges, pineapples and many more!
We then enjoyed participating in different activities, dressing up as fruit and vegetables, playing games, creating a fruit rainbow to display as well as making our own edible fruit rainbows, which were very tasty!

Topic Activities

Topic w/b 6th January

To begin our topic off, we have all planted a bean seed. We thought about what our seed might grown into and the way in which we were going to plant our seed. We then also discussed the way in which we would need to care for our seeds in order for them to grow into beanstalks.

We all had such a great time planting our seeds and we cannot wait to look after them over this term!

Topic w/b 13th January

This week during our topic sessions, we have been exploring repeating patterns. We had worms that had patterns started on them and we used finger painting to complete the patterns. We looked carefully at the pattern to make sure that the colours we used completed the pattern correctly.

Topic w/b 20th January

During our topic sessions this week, we have been creating our own flowers using cupcake cases. We chose either to cut the cupcake cases or put a few together to create the flower. After stocking it down and adding a button or sequin to the middle, we used pens to add the stem and the leaves.

We all created some lovely flower pictures ready to go on display!

Topic w/b 27th January

During our topic sessions this week, we have been learning all about the celebration of Chinese New Year. To find out some information about the celebration we watched a video that explained to us what happens during the celebration. We found out about the foods that are eaten, what gifts are given and how they celebrate.

After finding out about the celebration we decorated our own Chinese lanterns using red and yellow tissue paper as these are the colours that are important to the celebration.

Topic w/b 10th February

During our topic sessions this week, we have been exploring fruit and vegetables. We had a variety of different fruits and vegetables to have a look at. We had a look at the different fruits and vegetables and we spoke about what they looked like, if we had ever tried them and if they smelt of anything.

After exploring the fruits and vegetables, we had two circular hoops and we had to sort them into the correct group of either fruits or vegetables. We had a great time exploring and sorting the different fruits and vegetables.

Topic w/b 24th February

During our topic sessions this week, we have been exploring the life cycle of a butterfly. We first watched a video that explained to us what happens during the life cycle of a butterfly. After watching the video, we then spoke about what we had watched. We thought about what came first in the life cycle and how the caterpillar evebtually turns into a butterfly.

Once we had spoken about what we had watched, we then ordered the pictures of the life cycle of a butterfly, talking through each stage with our adult.
