This half-term we have been exploring place value within numbers up to 100,000. The children have looked at writing five and six-digit numbers in both numbers and words. We have been ordering numbers, comparing numbers and rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000.
We have also focussed on addition and subtraction within numbers to 1 000 000 this half-term. In doing so, we have explored different methods of addition and subtraction, including the column method.
This half-term we have been focussing on multiplication and division. We have learnt new maths vocabulary to support the children's learning (such as product, multiplier and multiplicand). The children have been taught multiple approaches to multiplication, which include the partitioning method, long multiplication and short multiplication. We have been multiplying four-digit numbers by a single digit number, and three-digit numbers by a two-digit number.
In our division lessons, we have looked at different methods that the children can use to divide numbers both with and without a remainder. These methods include the partitioning method, long division and short division.
